The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-Shenzhen) shall celebrate her 10-year anniversary on March 23, 2024, when the southerly wind brings back the blooming season of the spring. With a humble start and a decade of hard work, the University has earned its mark as one of the best of its kind in the country. We are now extending our invitation to leaders, partners, our alumni and their families and friends to attend the event.
The beautiful campus of CUHK-Shenzhen sits in the city of Shenzhen, constructed out of nothing but four run-down factory buildings and on barren hills. The new buildings now cover an area of 1.3 square kilometers with a floor space of 1.33 million square meters. The new campus houses 6 schools plus a graduate school and 7 Colleges with a total of more than 13,000 students and staff. CUHK-Shenzhen has ranked number one for the last four years among China’s joint-venture universities with overseas partners.
CUHK-Shenzhen has inherited the reputed notion of education and management framework from her birth of origin -- The Chinese University of Hong Kong, who is celebrating her 60-year anniversary in 2023, combining tradition with modernity and learning from East and West. CUHK-Shenzhen is in a unique position to put to practice the national policy of “one country with two systems” for Hong Kong as well as the development strategies of Shenzhen, making “one brand, two campuses” a reality and seen as a prime example of the Hong Kong SAR embracing the fast-paced development of the nation.
The University has set its goal of creating a world-class university and has already recruited more than 600 faculty members with excellent educational background, including 5 Nobel Laureates and more than 30 fellow members of science academies around the world. All our faculty members are selected on the basis of their rich international experience in teaching and research, their dedication to education and their service to the others.
CUHK-Shenzhen, born on the Mainland in China, also shoulders the responsibilities of exploring new pathways for reforming the country’s higher education to embrace the world and to bring out talents to compete on the international stage. The University has witnessed many of our students completing their studies and earning their degrees over the last decade, which includes 6 years of undergraduates, 8 years of postgraduates and 4 years of doctoral students. More than 70% of our undergraduate students have entered top-ranking universities around the world after completing their studies at CUHK-Shenzhen. For those who joined the workforce immediately after their graduation, more than half of them have chosen to stay in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
The University has established from scratch an extensive network of academic links with 140 universities from 32 different countries or regions and uses English as her main language of instruction. Efforts have been made to breaking down the disciplinary barriers and to establishing Collegiate education from the start. She has inherited a world-recognized practice for the general education, highlighting the importance of education in arts, broadening the learners’ international vision and, at the same time, passing on the cultural traditions and a sense of responsibility to the younger generation.
The University is committed to innovation and to achieving goals of developing a strong nation in science and education, contributing to the development of the Greater Bay Area as an international hub for technological innovation, for talents creation and for socio-economic development.
